  • Gardening Background

  • Biographical Information
College graduate B.S., correspondence course in horticulture while working at East Coast Tree Nursery/propagation. My plan was to move to the West Coast, learn plants grown here and start my own business. Instead I had a life changing accident and moved here for my health, met my husband and bought a small house with enough land to grow whatever; no lawn. This is our passion and keeps us both involved for as many hours as we choose. We both enjoy growing unusual plants.
  • My Mulch Profile

  • Gardening Ability
    5 - Certified Master Gardener
  • My 5 favorite plants are
    Salvia clevelandii 'Allen Chickering'
  • What is a garden myth you hear frequently which you know is untrue?
Bees in the garden are going to sting me.
  • And, what is the reality?
Unless provoked they are very happy collecting the pollen from the feast we have provided.
We are not talking swarming Africanized Honey Bees.
  • What is your favorite gardening outfit or costume?
Mickey Mouse shirt, shorts and flip-flops
  • Do you have a gardening philosophy you would like to share with other gardeners? What is it?
    Just do it.
  • If you could grow only one plant, what would it be?
I cannot imagine growing only one plant.
  • What plant have you tried to grow that has given you the most trouble? Or, what plant would you like to grow and can't, and why?
Salvia spathacea, don't have right exposure for it to grow.
Currently fighting with Fremontodendron planted too far into summer to get a good start. Will try again in fall if it goes to plant cemetery
  • What is your favorite time in the garden?
Any time in the garden is fine with me. We have been caught, by our neighbors, picking after dark with a flashlight or in rain storms with umbrella.
  • What is your favorite color in the garden?
    Blue, any shade or hue
  • What is your favorite place or activity in the garden?
It depends on the season and what is in bloom or ready for harvest. Sometimes it is just watching the plants grow.
  • What is your favorite public or private garden in the world? Why?
The Case Estates in Weston, Ma an experimental and growing area for the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard.
They always have something new happening and have demonstration gardens on view.

Mr. Charles Ledgerwood, Seedsman. I would go to buy $0.30 worth of seed and leave an hour later with new and fascinating information about the agricultural community.
